The Sky Tree is the tallest structure I have ever seen in person. (634m)

On the train to Nikko National Park. Trip takes about 2 hours.

Things start to get hilly halfway through.

Here we are in the town of Nikko. These mountains are around 2,000 - 2,500 meters high.

The azaleas here put mine to shame.

Cute 5 meter waterfall.

Whatever it was it was about 500 years old.

Everywhere around here there were huge Cedars.

Here is Nikko Tosho-gu One of the most famous shrines in Japan and a World Heritage Site.

The main extremely ornate gate.

Parts were being restored.

Spent some time puzzling out the metal bands until I took the time to look around in back to see they were all connected to a cable going up the tree. Turns out many of these large trees have their own custom fitted lightning rods.

Beginning with this picture I was once again on my own as the three others with me had to go back to Tokyo early for various reasons.

On my way to Kegon Falls. (The whole reason I went on this expedition.)

Here we go!

About 2/3 down the cliff face the erosion caused by the falls has intersected some form of confined aquifer which has created quite a series of springs.

The falls are at a rather high elevation and so the trees here are just beginning to put out their leaves. and the temperature was about 20 degrees cooler than in the town of Nikko.

Top of the falls.

The falls are 97 meters high (319 feet).

Tis still winter upon the mountain.

Decent into the valley. Oh goodness, the switchcbacks!

Christmas? tree and oft visited convenience store right outside of our hotel.
